The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the National Ministry of Economy reports that, in compliance with Disposition 20/2026 of the Undersecretariat of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries, it successfully detected a new foreign-flagged vessel operating within Argentina's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). In this regard, sanctions totaling $1,833,000,000, equivalent to 1,000,000 Fishing Units (FU), were imposed on the owning company.
The vessel in question is the "Hai Xiang 2," flying the Vanuatu flag, making it the fourth vessel sanctioned so far this year. Both in this action and in previous procedures, the presence of the Argentine Naval Prefecture and electronic detection technology has been crucial in effectively enforcing economic sanctions.
These measures are part of a zero-tolerance policy against illegal fishing, reaffirming the Argentine State's commitment to defending its sovereignty over marine resources and protecting national fisheries.
