The Port of Huelva registered a traffic volume exceeding 14.4 million tons between January and June of this year, a figure that represents a slight decrease of 0.4% compared to the same period last year.
Nevertheless, the movement of liquid bulk cargo, which accounts for almost 75% of the total traffic of the Huelva port, experienced an upward trend with a rise of 2.15% and a total volume of 10.8 million tons, due to the growth of fuels.
The President of the Port of Huelva, Alberto Santana, stated that "The Port of Huelva continues to boost its competitiveness with the implementation of new infrastructure primarily for the movement of general cargo and liquid bulk, which will contribute to the port's growth." Regarding the performance of total traffic during the first half, Santana highlighted the increase recorded in liquid bulk, the port's main asset.
However, the unstable international geopolitical situation has impacted the movement of solid bulk cargo, with a fall of 7.6% and a total movement of 2.5 million tons. Likewise, this downward trend has also been observed in general cargo traffic, with a fall of 8.2% and a total volume of more than 885,207 tons.
For its part, container traffic registered a total movement of more than 60,400 TEUs, and the number of Intermodal Transport Units for roll-on/roll-off cargo exceeded 14,400 units.
The 74% increase in car traffic as merchandise remains significant, with a movement of more than 26,500 units.
