Explora Journeys officially christened the Explora III at the Port of Barcelona, welcoming the brand's first LNG-powered vessel to its fleet and marking the halfway point of its six-ship vision.
Following its early delivery in Genoa on July 23, 2026, the Explora III embarked on an exclusive prelude voyage through the Mediterranean before arriving in Barcelona for the official christening ceremony. The journey welcomed global brand ambassador, Jannik Sinner, aboard as the ship's first guest. Building on the excitement of this inaugural voyage, the celebrations brought together distinguished guests and senior management from Explora Journeys and the MSC Group to commemorate this new fleet milestone.
The official christening ceremony was followed by an evening of celebrations onboard. The ceremony featured speeches from the Executive Chairman of the MSC Group's Cruise Division, Pierfrancesco Vago; Explora Journeys President, Anna Nash; President of the Port of Barcelona, José Alberto Carbonell; and the godmother, Cristina Ozores, a renowned marine educator and founder of the conservation organization Vellmarí, as well as a National Geographic educator, who blessed and officially christened the ship during the ceremony.
Subsequently, guests gathered in the Explora III's culinary spaces for a gala dinner before the celebrations culminated in an evening of entertainment.
"The naming of Explora III is a momentous occasion that reflects both the trajectory of our fleet and our steadfast commitment to shaping the future of ultra-luxury ocean travel. Conceived as a destination in itself, Explora III brings to life an even more generous expression of space, design, gastronomy, and holistic well-being, where every detail fosters the presence and connection that define our unique ocean philosophy," stated Anna Nash.
"For me, being the godmother of Explora III means opening the door to a new kind of experience, one where people can discover the ocean in a deeper and more meaningful way. I hope that each journey invites them to feel the beauty that lies beneath the surface, to marvel at its colors and life, and to reconnect with the sea with curiosity, joy, and a genuine desire to care for it," said Cristina Ozores.
"The true evolution of Explora III lies in our conception of informal luxury, now even more mature and consistent throughout the ship. Luxury must be present everywhere, but it should never feel formal or intimidating. It should convey elegance, comfort, and familiarity, like being at home," highlighted Antonio Di Nenno, Director of Architecture and Design at Explora Journeys.
