Tender Launched for the Construction of Several Concrete Walls in Raos 2 to Optimize Solid Bulk Storage

The works have a tender budget of almost 3.4 million euros (VAT included) and an execution period of six months. The deadline for submitting offers is August 26.

The president of the Port Authority, César Díaz, explained that "this is an essential work to increase the capacity and competitiveness of the Port, improving the provision of services at public docks."

Santander, August 3, 2026. The Port Authority of Santander (APS) has put out to public tender the construction of several concrete walls in Raos 2, with the objective "of expanding and compartmentalizing the areas designated for the storage of bulk merchandise, thus optimizing available space and increasing the protection of the merchandise," as explained by the president of the APS, César Díaz.

The works consist of the creation of three compartments to generate different solid bulk storage areas through the execution of a 165-meter long reinforced concrete wall with sections transversal to the main one and closing at its ends.

In this way, the infrastructure will allow, through the execution of these retaining walls, the temporary deposit of solid materials for both import and export, which will also mean a greater utilization of ship berths at Raos 2 dock.

It will be located in the strip of land between the vertical storage silo for sodium carbonate and the conveyor belt used for loading ships.

The works have a tender budget of 3,391,500 euros (VAT included) and an execution period of six months. Companies can submit their offers until next August 26.

Díaz assured that the work constitutes "a magnificent example of space optimization, both on land and in relation to docking at the pier, as well as the port's activity in general."

"We are constantly seeking solutions to increase the capacity of our infrastructures and improve service to our clients," he added. "Thanks to the resources we generate from our own activity, we have an Investment Plan that foresees public-private actions worth 245 million euros until 2030." Among these are prominent works such as the vertical automobile silo, Raos 6, Raos 8, or the urban access to the port.

The president of the APS assured that the ultimate goal of the Port is to continue being, together with the Government of Cantabria, "a driving force for the regional economy, generating employment and business opportunities for companies in our hinterland," as corresponds to an entity "that contributes 13.7% to the GDP and 11% to employment in Cantabria."
