Seville Tenders Guadaltwin Digital Twin for USD 5.9 Million

The Port Authority of Seville (APS) has published on the Public Sector Contracting Platform the tender for the Innovative Public Procurement for the first phase of the Guadalquivir digital twin, Guadaltwin. This action has a base budget of USD 5.9 million, excluding VAT, and an execution period of one and a half years.

Guadaltwin will place the Port of Seville at the forefront of port innovation with more efficient, safer, and more sustainable navigation. Its main objective is to improve vessel capacity and facilitate maritime access with more cargo to the terminal.

The digital twin will optimize navigation with more precise channel planning and management, and will improve operations and maneuverability. To do this, it will integrate hydrographic, environmental, and operational data, which will favor scenario simulation and decision-making.

One of Guadaltwin's main innovations is the development of an autopilot that simulates operational draft, capable of executing thousands of scenarios in seconds. This module analyzes the behavior of a vessel under physical and operational combinations such as tide, draft, currents, wind, hydrodynamics, cargo, or speed, allowing for more precise definition and planning of the use of the Guadalquivir Eurovía.

Another development consists of a real-time 3D simulator. This tool will provide the pilotage service with the ability to evaluate scenarios and practice special or infrequent maneuvers in an immersive virtual environment. It will include daytime, nighttime, or low-visibility navigation and will also serve as a training platform for training in virtual scenarios with complete safety.

Likewise, Guadaltwin incorporates an automatic navigation planner that applies the information generated by the two previous modules, will reduce administrative times, improve the predictability of operational windows, and technical-nautical services (pilots, tugboats, and mooring personnel).

Guadaltwin will be able to anticipate, simulate, and plan navigation throughout the Guadalquivir waterway. This digital twin will benefit both the Port Authority of Seville, as well as the Maritime Captaincy, the Corporation of Pilots of the Guadalquivir Estuary, along with shipping companies, logistics operators, and other users of the Port of Seville.

The deadline for submitting bids is October 1, 2026. The project is 85% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) within the framework of the Pluriregional Program of Spain 2021-2027, through aid granted by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities under the Line for the Promotion of Innovation from Demand (FID Line) for Public Procurement of Innovation.
