The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Motril approved the concession of the project for the installation of a photovoltaic power generation plant with storage and intelligent energy management systems in the Logistics Activities Zone (ZAL) to Cuerva Energía.
The installation will consist of a photovoltaic plant with a peak power of 2.6 megawatts and a nominal power of 2.22, complemented by an energy storage system of 2.5 megawatts and a capacity of 4 megawatt-hours, in addition to an intelligent energy management system (EMS), which will optimize the generation, storage, and distribution of the energy produced.
For the construction of the project, which will be valid for 35 years, the occupation of 13,185 square meters of air rights, around 350 square meters of ground, and 948 square meters of subsoil will be necessary. The solar panels will be installed on canopy-type structures distributed in two sectors of the ZAL, with an approximate area of 5,480 square meters in the north sector and 7,705 square meters in the south sector. Once the construction project is approved, works must begin within a maximum period of six months and be executed within a period not exceeding two years.
The energy generated will contribute to improving the energy efficiency of port facilities and is part of the Port Authority of Motril's commitment to incorporating renewable energies, reducing its carbon footprint, and moving towards a more sustainable, innovative, and resilient port model.
Due to the characteristics of the action, its development will be coordinated with the works of the Green Motril project, currently promoted by the Authority for the remodeling of the pre-boarding area, with the aim of optimizing the execution of the works, minimizing impacts on port activity, and integrating the new energy infrastructures within the port's modernization process.
The president of the Port Authority of Motril, José García Fuentes, said that "this project represents a decisive step in our strategy to turn the Port of Motril into a benchmark for sustainability and innovation. We are committed to renewable energy generation, intelligent storage, and energy efficiency as pillars to build a more competitive port, prepared for future challenges and committed to decarbonization. Furthermore, coordination with the Green Motril project will allow us to optimize resources and accelerate the transformation of our facilities."
With the Green Motril project, the port will generate the energy it consumes, reduce its cost to the port community, and become an energy island.
With this initiative, the Port Authority of Motril continues to advance its roadmap towards a more efficient, competitive, and sustainable port, consolidating its commitment to the energy transition and the development of infrastructures aligned with European decarbonization objectives.
