The Port of Barcelona yesterday hosted the conference "Security and Resilience in port facilities against operational and emerging risks," organized by the inspection and certification company Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) with the collaboration of the Port of Barcelona and Salvamento Marítimo de Barcelona.
The conference analyzed some of the challenges that professionals in the maritime and port sectors must face in their daily management and in the security planning of facilities, emphasizing prevention and compliance with regulations. Speakers highlighted the importance of Self-Protection Plans (PAU) for port companies and industries being living documents that are periodically reviewed and updated to provide the most effective response to emergency situations.
The energy transition was the main focus of the conference. The world's major ports, such as the Port of Barcelona, are carrying out important projects to decarbonize their activity and facilitate the use of new fuels in maritime transport. In this area, speakers recalled the importance of photovoltaic installations, electric vehicle transport, and methanol, ammonia, or hydrogen plants, among others, having prevention plans adapted to each specificity.
The conference, which included a welcome from the Head of Port Operations and Goods at the Port of Barcelona, Félix González, and featured the Head of Industrial Security, Anna Perera, brought together fifty technicians, including prevention and security managers from port companies and specialists in regulations and risk management in industrial facilities, and concluded with a round table where different professionals shared experiences and doubts about the challenges posed by the current port transformation.
