This morning, the Environment working group of the Governing Council of the Port Community of Barcelona carried out a collective action to protect marine biodiversity, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and coastal protection.
The event, held at the facilities of the Barcelona Nautical Capital Foundation (FBCN) on the occasion of World Environment Day, combined a navigation activity along the Barcelona coastline with the construction of a clay biotope that will be submerged in the coastal area to facilitate the colonization of marine species and promote biodiversity.
The initiative saw the active participation of 32 companies from the logistics and port sector, in addition to the Port of Barcelona itself. The participating entities were: Alfaship Maritime Services SL, A.Perez y Cia, APM Terminals Barcelona, Amarres de Barcelona, Association of Ship Consignees of Barcelona, Barcelona Nautical Cluster, BC Cruise Services, Maritime Captaincy of Barcelona, Club EMAS Catalunya, Corporation of Barcelona Pilots, Government Delegation, Health Area - Foreign Health, Enagas, Exolum, Global Ports Holding, Hutchison Ports BEST, MSC, Marina Barcelona'92, Marina Port Vell, Miladerto - TPS South (Ex Terquimsa), Noatum Maritime Cruise Services, Portcemen, Reyser, Tepsa, Tradebe Port Services, Tradebe Port Barcelona, Relisa, TMA and Intercruises.
The activity was made possible thanks to the sponsorship of APM Terminals, Exolum, Intercruises, Marina BCN 92, Noatum, Portcemen, Tradebe Port Barcelona and Tradebe Port Services, who made possible a day focused on environmental awareness and collective responsibility.
During the day, participants were divided into groups to carry out navigation activities with the FBCN boats and to model the clay biotopes under the leadership and assistance of the Belongs to Sea initiative. Subsequently, the clay shapes will be fired in an oven and submerged at points near the Fòrum coastline.
This is the sixth consecutive year that the Port Community of Barcelona has organized a joint action to commemorate World Environment Day, consolidating itself as an example of collaboration between institutions and companies to advance towards a more sustainable port model committed to decarbonization.
"This initiative is a small step for the conservation of our natural environment, but at the same time it is a big step to strengthen the environmental awareness of the port business fabric," highlighted Ana Conesa and Marc Hervàs, presidents of the Environment working group of the Governing Council of the Port Community of Barcelona.
