Santander, June 26, 2026. The Board of Directors of the Port Authority has approved, in its meeting today, an investment of 3.4 million euros for the construction of several concrete walls in Raos 2, with the aim of compartmentalizing bulk materials, thus optimizing available storage space and increasing merchandise protection.
As explained by the president of the public body, César Díaz, the Port "continues to be immersed" in the search for solutions to increase its operational capacity. "What we seek with this work is to store a greater number of solid bulk materials on the first line of the Raos 2 dock and, in this way, continue to gain in efficiency and competitiveness," he added.
After the process completed today, the forecast is to tender the works in the coming weeks and have them finished before the end of this year.
The Board has also given economic approval for the contracting of maintenance dredging works for the Port for the next five years, with an investment budget of 8.3 million euros. The estimated dredging volume is 150,000 cubic meters annually, reaching a total of 750,000 cubic meters by 2030.
The objective, for Díaz, is "to maintain the minimum drafts established in port waters and guarantee safe navigation in its accesses."
Furthermore, the highest governing body of the APS has approved the entity's accounts for the 2025 financial year, which show a turnover exceeding 26 million euros and an economic result reaching almost 7.7 million euros.
These figures provide an idea of "the responsible and rigorous management" that the institution is carrying out, which translates into financial self-sufficiency "that allows us to develop our Investment Plan and, therefore, achieve greater competitiveness."
In other matters, the Board has approved the evaluations of the protection of the container port facilities - located at Raos 3 dock - and passenger facilities - at Almirante and Maliaño docks - carried out by the Port Authority of Santander, in compliance with international, European, and Spanish regulations on the obligation to conduct risk assessments of threats against maritime protection, including port facilities.
Likewise, the Board of Directors has approved the entity's adherence to the Luxembourg Declaration for the promotion of health at work in the European Union.
Drafted in 1997 by the European Network for Workplace Health Promotion, this document aims to promote work environments that favor the health, well-being, and quality of life of workers by acting on three areas: improving working conditions, employee participation, and promoting individual development by adopting healthy lifestyle habits.
The president of the APS emphasized that this is a "voluntary commitment" that the institution wants to undertake to "integrate health and well-being into the organization's management."
