The Port of Barcelona hosted the conference "Safety and Resilience in Port Facilities in the Face of Operational and Emerging Risks," organized by the inspection and certification company Société Générale de Surveillance (SGS) with the collaboration of the Port of Barcelona and Maritime Rescue Barcelona.
The conference analyzed some of the challenges that professionals in the maritime and port sectors must face in their daily management and in the safety planning of facilities, focusing on prevention and compliance with regulations. Speakers highlighted the importance of Self-Protection Plans (PAU) for port companies and industries being living documents that are periodically reviewed and updated to provide the most effective response to emergency situations.
Energy transition was the main block of the conference. Major ports worldwide, such as the Port of Barcelona, are carrying out important projects to decarbonize their activity and facilitate the use of new fuels in maritime transport. In this area, speakers emphasized the importance of photovoltaic installations, electric vehicle transport, and methanol, ammonia, or hydrogen plants, among others, having prevention plans adapted to each specificity.
The conference, which included a welcome from the Head of Port Operations and Goods at the Port of Barcelona, Félix González, and featured the Head of Industrial Safety, Anna Perera, brought together fifty technicians, including prevention and safety managers from port companies and specialists in regulations and risk management in industrial facilities. It concluded with a round table where different professionals shared experiences and doubts about the challenges posed by the current port transformation.
