Rotterdam, June 17, 2026. The Port Authority of Santander (APS) is participating this week in Breakbulk Europe Rotterdam, with the dual objective of boosting project cargo and special cargo traffic through the port of Santander and publicizing the projects and new developments it is undertaking to expand its range of services and infrastructure.
This fair, which brings together almost all shipping companies, freight forwarders, transporters, and shippers specialized in this traffic, offers a unique opportunity to establish direct contact with the main agents in the sector, who are ultimately responsible for deciding the configuration of distribution logistics chains and can point to a specific port as an entry or exit point for oversized goods.
In this regard, two representatives from the APS commercial department, Guillermo Ortíz and Elisabet Fuentes, are holding various meetings with shipping companies, ports from other countries, and operators, to explore the different possibilities of handling new Breakbulk traffic in Santander.
Among its strengths, the APS, which is participating in the Ports of Spain stand - under the motto "Together Forward. Special ports for special loads" - stands out both for having a highly specialized, reliable, and efficient Port Community, and for a quality Lo-Lo (Lift-on/Lift-off) and Ro-Ro (Roll-on/Roll-off) operational duality with regular lines, for the latter, dedicated to both short sea shipping and transoceanic connections.
In addition, it has a large structural capacity of docks and esplanades, draft and maritime accessibility, a combination that allows the berthing of vessels specialized in this type of cargo 365 days a year, high-capacity cranes, and good land accessibility with its hinterland, as well as experience in this type of operations, security, flexibility, and, above all, operational confidence.
Project cargo is experiencing remarkable growth in the port of Santander, characterized by the great diversification of large cargo subsectors it serves, especially wind turbine blades and towers, civil engineering machinery, and railway equipment, although other sectors such as mining, agriculture, and large military vehicles are also gaining relevance.
To continue boosting this traffic, the APS is increasing, among other things, the land offer and the berthing line with the construction of the new Raos 6 dock, which will complement Raos 5, which specializes precisely in large loads.
The celebration of Breakbulk in Rotterdam is another incentive for the APS, as it has a direct connection with this Port, the largest in Europe, which continues to be the main origin/destination point for goods passing through Spanish ports.
This fair constitutes the largest global event for project and breakbulk cargo and brings together more than 12,000 industry professionals from 120 different countries and 700 exhibitors in Rotterdam this week.
