The Confederation of Port Workers of Chile (Cotraporchi) strengthened security in the port industry with a seminar that addressed the topic from different perspectives at the National Maritime Museum, in Valparaíso.
The event saw the participation of various actors linked to the sector, who, from their positions, presented the advances and challenges that exist, both at the regulatory level and in terms of workplace culture.
The meeting featured presentations by Boris Abarza, head of the Maritime Risk Prevention Department of Dirsomar; Cristian Rodríguez, general manager of Terminal Pacífico Sur (TPS); Juan Carlos Rojas, president of the CPHS of Muellaje; Agustín Jelves, international affairs manager of the Institute of Occupational Safety (IST); Pedro Brain, multi-purpose ports manager of Ultraport; and Fernando Reveco, development manager of Ultramar.
The president of Cotraporchi, Sergio Baeza, stated that "as the Confederation of Port Workers of Chile, we held a new port security seminar in Valparaíso, an event that we carry out annually in different parts of the country because we firmly believe that security must always be a priority in our sector."
"For us, talking about security is not just talking about protocols or regulations, but also about the care for the lives and integrity of every port worker who performs duties daily in the ports of Chile," emphasized the leader of the port organization.
"These meetings allow us to share experiences, analyze current challenges, and strengthen a preventive culture that involves workers, companies, and authorities. We will continue to promote these spaces for dialogue and training, because we are convinced that advancing in security also means advancing in better working conditions and in a more dignified and humane port work," highlighted Baeza.
