Yesterday, the Panama Canal participated in the traditional bell ringing ceremony at the Latin American Stock Exchange (Latinex), marking the listing of its bond, originally issued in 2015 for USD 450 million, on the entity's international secondary market.
The ceremony brought together executives from the Panama Canal and Latinex, who highlighted the importance of this milestone for Panama's positioning in international capital markets, and for strengthening the visibility of financial instruments associated with one of the country's most solid and recognized institutions.
The listing of this instrument on Latinex's international secondary market expands its visibility among regional and international investors, while maintaining the original characteristics and conditions of the issuance. The listing does not modify the terms of the bond nor does it imply a new placement of resources by the Panama Canal.
During the event, Latinex CEO, Olga Cantillo, noted that the incorporation of Panama Canal issuances into the international secondary market represents a significant step forward for the country's projection to global investors.
"When an institution of the prestige and relevance of the Panama Canal incorporates one of its issuances into our international listing, confidence in Panama and in our capital markets is strengthened," said Cantillo.
She also emphasized that the Panama Canal constitutes a reference of excellence and competitiveness for the country.
"The Panama Canal generates confidence to facilitate world trade, and that same confidence is what drives capital markets and attracts investment for the economic and social development of Panama," she affirmed.
For his part, the Administrator of the Panama Canal, Ricaurte Vásquez Morales, highlighted that this step will expand the depth and visibility of Panamanian financial markets, while strengthening the country's connection with international investors.
"The importance of this event transcends merely listing a financial issuance. It is about continuing to open doors for more institutions to participate in capital markets and contributing to the strengthening of Panama as a leading financial and logistics hub," said Vásquez Morales.
The administrator also emphasized that the development of the Canal and the development of the country are closely linked.
"The Panama Canal is a strategic asset for the nation. To the extent that the Canal advances, Panama advances; and to the extent that Panama advances, the Canal is also strengthened," he stated.
This listing provides a new visibility platform for the issuance, facilitating access for international investors and contributing to positioning Panama within an increasingly integrated network of capital markets.
