The first alert from the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA) for the control of the Lobesia botrana pest in the province of San Juan is now in effect, within the framework of Resolution N.° 373/2025.
Grape producers must control the moth when their crops show visible floral clusters of 5 to 7 cm in length, using only products authorized by SENASA and following the instructions established on the label.
The deadline for carrying out treatments will be until October 9 for farms in the Tulum Valley, while in the departments of Sarmiento and 25 de Mayo it will extend until October 23.
Although the conditions corresponding to accumulated temperature and cluster size established to determine the control moment have been met, the recent frosts recorded in different areas of the province may modify crop development and, consequently, the optimal moment to carry out the treatment.
For this reason, producers are recommended to monitor the evolution of their crops and verify the state of the clusters before applying, in order to determine the appropriate moment for the control of the first flight of the pest.
Producers implementing the Sexual Confusion Technique (SCT) through pheromone diffusers must also carry out the corresponding applications for pest control.
Alerts aim to indicate the opportune moment to carry out treatments. To achieve effective control, it is essential to carry out applications at the right time, considering both the conditions established for the alert and the phenological state of the crop. Likewise, the importance of keeping the Phytosanitary Measures Record Book updated is recalled.
