The National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA) lectured on the regulatory scope for aquaculture development and epidemiological surveillance tasks in Patagonian salmonids, within the framework of a training session held at the facilities of the National Technological University (UTN) in Puerto Madryn, Chubut Province.
The activity, organized by UTN (Chubut Regional Faculty) through the Center for Research and Technological Development in Aquaculture, Fisheries and Food (CIDAPAL), within the framework of the Specific Agreement signed with SENASA, had a hybrid format that allowed for both in-person and virtual participation, facilitating access for a large number of interested parties throughout the country.
During the day, the Patagonia Sur Regional Center and the SENASA Aquatic Animal Diseases Program addressed the new Resolution N.° 793/2026 —which will come into force on March 1, 2027— with the minimum biosecurity and good aquaculture practices conditions that commercial fish production establishments for consumption must implement.
In a context of growing relevance for the productive development of austral aquaculture, it was recalled that fish farms covered by the regulation must, among other requirements, register in the National Sanitary Registry of Agricultural Producers (RENSPA), comply with current requirements regarding animal welfare and have an accredited aquaculture technician.
This proposal, aimed at producers, technicians, professionals, students and actors directly or indirectly linked to the aquaculture value chain and marine and continental resources, arose in response to the need to provide updated information and practical tools related to sanitary management, with the necessary regulatory support to face the challenges of the sector.

The workshop held in Puerto Madryn adds to the activities developed in southern Patagonia in relation to aquaculture, such as the recent 12th Industrial, Commercial and Technological Innovation Expo, where the challenges of aquaculture and mariculture in the region were discussed, with the purpose of working together and actively cooperating with the actors involved in this issue.
