(9:38 a.m. EDT) — Aurora Expeditions will host its first women-only voyage in Antarctica, sailing aboard Sylvia Earle on February 29, 2028.
Created in partnership with Road Scholar, a not-for-profit organization focused on educational travel, the 15-day "Spirit of Antarctica: Expedition for Women" adventure will be led by an all-female expedition team. The sailing will feature lectures, activities and guest speakers who have been pioneers in different fields.
"There's a special sense of camaraderie and belonging that happens when you have a group of women learning together," said Eliza Carrera, Road Scholar's director of program management. "And the opportunity to learn from an all-women expedition team will add an extra layer of depth and connection for all of the passengers onboard the ship."
"Many of our participants are contemporaries of these milestones and witnessed these women making history during their own lifetimes," added Ines Arditto, program operations director. "Having these women sharing their stories and expertise is certain to make the experience particularly meaningful."
The journey begins with two nights in Buenos Aires and one night in Ushuaia before guests board Sylvia Earle. After crossing the Drake Passage, travelers will explore the Antarctic Peninsula by Zodiac, with opportunities to see penguins, seals and whales amid glaciers and icebergs.
Onboard, guests will have access to a comprehensive library, an interactive laboratory and guidance from the expedition team. Road Scholar's group of up to 24 participants will also enjoy private gatherings, accompanied by an experienced group leader throughout the program.
