A total of 77 social organizations in San Antonio benefited from the San Antonio Port Competitive Funds, a community relations initiative that, for the fourth consecutive year, the state-owned company promotes to support projects that contribute to improving community spaces and the development of local life.
The current version of the program, for which 100 million pesos were allocated, called for the participation of 174 initiatives, which "accounts for the interest of organizations in accessing this financing tool and developing their own projects. Of the total applications, 136 were declared admissible, having complied in a timely manner with the documentation required in the process guidelines," according to the San Antonio Port Company (EPSA).
The awarded projects consider different lines of financing, including the improvement of community infrastructure and the development of recreational, social, sports, and cultural activities, allowing support for initiatives that respond to diverse needs and interests of the urban and rural sectors of the commune.
The selection of the winning initiatives was carried out by a commission made up of Gonzalo Taboada, from the Regional Directorate of Corfo; Roberto Alcaíno, from Fosis; María Paz Blanco, from the Provincial Presidential Delegation of San Antonio; Daniela Jiménez, from the Diceco of the Municipality of San Antonio; Ricardo Sáez, from the State CFT San Antonio campus, in addition to two representatives from Puerto San Antonio.
Consuelo Cánaves, Sustainability and Public Affairs Manager of Puerto San Antonio, valued the process and stated that "we are very happy to successfully close a new version of our Competitive Funds and, especially, that 77 organizations from different sectors of the commune have been selected to develop their projects. For us, it is very significant that the resources can be translated into concrete initiatives that contribute to the work carried out by organizations and the development of their communities."
"Having received 174 projects is a very important signal, because it shows that San Antonio organizations value this initiative and see it as a concrete opportunity to promote their ideas and turn them into reality. Behind each project there are people who organize, who work for their communities and who have proposals to improve their environment, and as a port company we are happy to be able to accompany that effort and contribute to these initiatives being carried out," she added.
Meanwhile, Luis Cortés, president of the Communal Union of Senior Citizens of San Antonio (UCAM), stated that "this project really falls from the sky for us, because we had significant problems with an electrical installation that was already very old. Thanks to these resources, we will be able to completely improve the lighting of our headquarters, something fundamental especially for our senior citizens, many of whom have visual difficulties and participate in activities in the afternoon, when they need to have safe corridors and accesses. We are all very happy and grateful to Puerto San Antonio, because this headquarters receives many people and various types of activities are carried out here that are very important for our community."
The president of the Communal Union of Neighborhood Councils of San Antonio (Uncosan), Solange Huerta, commented that "we significantly value this support that allows us to strengthen the work carried out with the neighborhood councils that are part of this organization. We also highlight the support that many neighborhood councils that were favored with the 2026 Competitive Funds will receive, as they will be able to meet highly relevant goals that this social work requires. Many of them will be able to implement repairs and acquire goods for their social headquarters, which represent the main fundamental pillar of the work they carry out, as well as others will be able to carry out different participation dynamics together with the residents of each sector they represent."
In turn, Soledad Astorga, head of the Neighborhood Council of Población Holanda, expressed that "we are very happy to be awarded this project because it will allow us to acquire a container that we urgently need to use as a warehouse. As a leader, this achievement has a very special meaning, because applying involved a great effort and gathering all the necessary documentation was not an easy process. I believe that we must continue to promote initiatives that allow different sectors to progress and have better spaces and conditions for their residents because we have the right to improve our quality of life, and these projects promoted by the port company are a concrete opportunity to move in that direction."
"We are a social club that does not charge fees to its members, so we are constantly looking for alternatives and projects that allow us to move forward and provide better conditions for our children. Many times we do not have the necessary resources, and that is why we are very happy to be awarded this project, which will allow us to acquire bicycles so that our athletes, aged between 6 and 14, can use them and compete in better conditions," concluded Paulina Bravo, leader of the San Antonio SX Sports Club.
