The Prefectura Naval Argentina (PNA) welcomed students from Municipal Kindergarten Nº 15 to the facilities of the Fire, Salvage, and Environmental Protection Station (SIPA) in Mar del Plata. The students participated in a guided tour designed to learn about the various tasks carried out by the specialized personnel of this Maritime Authority.
During the day, more than 30 children between 3 and 5 years old, accompanied by teachers from the aforementioned educational institution, toured the Station's facilities and learned in a didactic way about the work performed by Coast Guard firefighters in the event of fires and other emergency situations.
In this context, the personnel exhibited the personal protective equipment used in firefighting, the emergency unit, and the various elements/tools employed during interventions, explaining in a simple way the role of each member of a crew and the importance of coordinated work during an emergency.
Likewise, the students were able to see some of the equipment used by the Institution's professional divers, including immersion suits, masks, and communication systems used during underwater tasks.
As part of the activity, a demonstration of a fire truck in operation was carried out, with the deployment of a water line, and of the audible warning systems used in an emergency, allowing the children to closely observe some of the means with which the Station's personnel work daily.
The day also included a preventive talk adapted to the age of the visitors, in which basic recommendations were given to apply in their homes, with special emphasis on not handling elements that could cause fires, immediately notifying an adult in a risky situation, and understanding the importance of communicating with emergency services.
In this way, the activity allowed the youngest children to get closer to the work carried out by the Prefectura Naval Argentina in terms of salvage, firefighting, and security, promoting responsible behavior for accident prevention from an early age and strengthening the Institution's ties with the community.
