Personnel from the Argentine Naval Prefecture seized over 324 kilograms of marijuana during an operation carried out on the banks of the Paraná River, in the province of Misiones, as a result of investigation and surveillance tasks conducted by the Force.
The procedure began when members of the Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Delegation of the Libertador General San Martín unit obtained information about a possible entry of narcotics from the Republic of Paraguay. An observation post was then deployed.
During surveillance, institutional personnel observed, downstream from their position, a rowboat crossing from the coast of the neighboring country towards Argentine territory with two people on board and several packages. The vessel arrived at the coast, at kilometer 1,738 of the Paraná River, in the Arroyo León area, so support was immediately requested to reinforce the operation.
Upon arriving at the scene, personnel from the national Maritime Authority located a vehicle with its doors open. Inside, they found three packages containing pressed marijuana bricks.
Furthermore, after an exhaustive search, personnel found more drugs on a path leading from the coast and in a wooden boat.
As a result of the search, it was confirmed that there were 13 packages with 409 bricks, weighing over 324 kilograms. The market value exceeds 1,242 million pesos.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office of the city of Oberá, headed by Dr. Viviana Alejandra Vallejos, is intervening in the case and ordered the seizure of the narcotics, the vehicle, and the vessel used for the illegal maneuver.
