The operation began based on prior intelligence information, which led officers to the area known as “Puerto Carolina,” at kilometer 1865 of the Paraná River. Using a thermal camera, they observed, from a distance, a motorboat with several occupants crossing the river. The occupants unloaded large packages on the Argentine coast and quickly returned to the neighboring country.
Immediately, officers deployed to the scene to locate those who received the merchandise. While heading to the area, they detected a pickup truck traveling towards the urban center, carrying several bundles inside. Finally, the vehicle was intercepted at the entrance to Colonia Wanda.
Inside the vehicle, 13 large bags were found, wrapped and secured with packing tape. Subsequently, the presence of cannabis sativa was confirmed.
The packages were distributed in 535 bricks of marijuana, weighing over 404 kilograms and with a market value of 1.496 billion pesos.
The case is under the Federal Court of Puerto Iguazú, headed by Dr. Marcelo Alejandro Cardozo, with the intervention of the local Federal Prosecutor's Office, corresponding to Dr. Marcelo José Bernachea. By order of the magistrates, the driver was arrested and the vehicle used for transport was impounded.
