The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the National Ministry of Economy reports that, within the framework of the zero-tolerance policy against illegal fishing, the National Government continues to strengthen controls and apply sanctions to vessels operating irregularly in Argentine waters, having already received $5,381,374,680 in compensation so far this year.
It is worth mentioning that in compliance with Disposition 20/2026 of the Undersecretariat of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries, the latest sanction was for the vessel “Hai Xiang 2”, flying the flag of Vanuatu, for operating within the Argentine Exclusive Economic Zone. The vessels “Bao Feng” and “Bao Win”, from Vanuatu, and “Coimbra”, from Portugal, were also sanctioned for the same reasons.
The policy promoted by the National Government seeks to ensure compliance with current regulations, defend sovereignty over marine resources, and protect national fishing activity, through a strategy of permanent control and effective sanctions against those who infringe the rules within the EEZ.
The sanctions imposed highlight the effort to prevent and effectively combat illegal fishing, resulting in the recovery of resources for the State derived from non-compliance with Argentine legislation.
