Given the imminent visit of Pope Leo XIV to Argentina, a large influx of passengers from abroad is expected. Therefore, the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (SENASA) recommends travelers inform themselves before traveling about animal and plant products whose entry is prohibited without the corresponding authorization.
Furthermore, to avoid delays in inspections, personnel reinforcements are planned at the borders, especially in Entre Ríos, “Jorge Newbery” Airport (CABA), and at the “Ministro Pistarini” (Ezeiza) and “Ambrosio Taravella” (Córdoba) international airports.

According to the official agenda for the apostolic journey, after his arrival in Montevideo, Uruguay, Leo XIV will celebrate Holy Mass in Paysandú, a city bordering the Argentine city of Colón (Entre Ríos). Therefore, increased transit of Argentinians to Uruguay is expected via the “General Artigas” International Bridge.
Due to the planned itinerary in Argentina, the arrival of passengers is expected mainly from neighboring countries such as Chile, Bolivia, Brazil, and Paraguay, so SENASA is also responding to the prerogatives established by the national government, especially at airports.
Permitted Products
SENASA's presence at the borders aims to prevent the entry of pests and diseases not present in the country through animal or plant products that travelers may carry.

Resolution 295/99 establishes a list of animal and plant products authorized to enter without issues, such as canned fish, pork, poultry; processed fruits or vegetables or jams, candied fruits, juices, sugar, oil, among many others, provided they are in quantities appropriate for personal consumption and properly packaged and factory-labeled.
SENASA personnel may inspect luggage or vehicles to verify that no products posing a sanitary risk are being transported. In case of detection, agents must draw up a report, confiscate the merchandise, and safely denature it in the presence of the user.

Those who wish to know more information can consult the “Information for Travelers” section on the Senasa website, contact the email address responde@senasa.gob.ar, or send a message to the official Senasa Whatsapp: +541135859810.
