A Ukrainian national crew member died after suffering medical complications while aboard the Milos I vessel near the Port of Mar del Plata (Argentina).
According to local media outlet La Capital, the captain of the ship (flying the Maltese flag) requested emergency assistance on Tuesday, August 18, as the vessel was en route to Malaysia. During this time, the chief engineer began to experience serious health problems (which have not yet been specified).
The Argentine Navy responded to the rescue, and through the Mar del Plata Coordinating Center, began coordinating to provide the appropriate assistance within the framework of the International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue.
After initial contact, the intervention of the oceanic patrol vessel Storni was ordered to provide medical assistance to the crew member. It was also reported that an aero-evacuation could not be carried out due to visibility issues.
Finally, during the night, the National SAR Agency received notification of the Ukrainian citizen's death, and the body was disembarked on the morning of Wednesday, August 19, at the Port of Mar del Plata.
