The incident occurred when agents of the national Maritime Authority set up an observation point in the Ferreyra area, at kilometer 1924.5 of the Paraná River. From there, they observed a motorboat with a large number of packages crossing from the foreign coast towards the Argentine side.
A fluvial unit of the Paraguayan maritime authority intercepted the boat on the Argentine bank, and shortly after, Force personnel arrived at the scene and took charge of the procedure. The driver and the vessel were transferred to the Prefectura Iguazú headquarters, where the Argentine National Gendarmerie and the provincial Police assisted with security tasks at the entrance.
Upon opening the packages, it was confirmed that they contained 4,226 thermoses, 535 thermal cups, 290 thermal containers, 340 headphones, 141 cell phones, 220 vapers, 52 portable speakers, 20 stereos, 13 video game consoles, one motorcycle, one tricycle, and one electric scooter, and 125 cartons of cigarettes, among other products. The total value exceeds 186 million pesos.
The Decentralized Fiscal Office, headed by Dr. Aníbal Martinez, is intervening in the case.
