The Argentine Naval Prefecture seized foreign merchandise valued at 400 million pesos during an operation carried out in the province of Santiago del Estero.
The procedure began when Force personnel, based on information provided by the Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Delegation, deployed a vehicle checkpoint on National Route N° 9, at kilometer 1,210.
In this context, the officers stopped a semi-trailer truck, coming from Orán (Salta) and destined for the province of Buenos Aires, which was transporting numerous pallets with merchandise that lacked supporting documentation to prove its origin and customs endorsement.
At the instruction of Federal Court N° 2 of Santiago del Estero, the preventive seizure of the vehicle was ordered, and the General Directorate of Customs was notified. Subsequently, the vehicle was transferred, under the custody of Prefectura, to the fiscal warehouse located in the La Banda Industrial Park to verify the cargo.
At the site, customs personnel inspected the truck using a scanner for containers and large vehicles. In addition, an inspection was carried out with a narcotics detection dog, which yielded a negative result.
During the opening, verification, and counting of the packages, a quantity of foreign merchandise was found, including clothing, sneakers, towels, sheets, thermoses, mates, crockery, electric kettles, household items, sweets, computer accessories, and other products. Likewise, 48 kilograms of coca leaves were found, distributed in different packages.
Once the inspection was completed, the customs authority determined that the merchandise did not have the corresponding supporting documentation to prove its origin, so its seizure was ordered.
The total assessment estimated by the General Directorate of Customs amounts to 400 million pesos for various goods and 3 million pesos for the coca leaves. Federal Court N° 2 of Santiago del Estero intervened in the case.
