The Argentine Naval Prefecture carried out a training navigation aimed at strengthening the formation of twelve students from the "Prefecto General Martín Jacobo José Thompson" Petty Officers School of the Force, who sailed the Paraná de las Palmas River, in the Gobernador Arias Channel and the Luján River aboard the PNA YR-7 "Esperanza" yacht.
The activity concluded with the mooring of the vessel at the Yacht Club Argentino marinas in San Fernando, after a day in which the aspiring officers were able to put into practice the knowledge acquired during their academic training.
During the navigation, the future petty officers served as active crew and participated in different maneuvers, including the handling of ropes and rigging, and the hoisting, lowering, and trimming of the mainsail. Likewise, they took turns at the helm to maintain the assigned course, correct leeway, and develop skills for the safe command of the vessel.
The instruction also included the application of knowledge on tide height calculations, fundamental for planning navigation in shallow areas, such as the Gobernador Arias channel. In addition, the young trainees practiced the identification and interpretation of buoyage according to the IALA system and worked on communications and traffic management between vessels, essential aspects for safe and orderly navigation.
