The container ship OOCL Grace, operated by Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), received 983 tonnes of green methanol at the Port of Yantian, in Shenzhen, China, ahead of its maiden commercial voyage. The bunkering operation was completed on October 29, 2026, according to Portal Portuario, while Manifold Times reported that CIMC Enric announced the news on Friday, October 30.
The bunkering was carried out by the bunker vessel Daqing 268, operated by Sinobunker, a joint venture between COSCO Shipping Group and Sinopec Group, as specified by Manifold Times. The green methanol was supplied in full by CIMC Green Energy Technology, a subsidiary of CIMC Enric in Guangdong, from its production plant in Zhanjiang.
One of the largest vessels of its class
The OOCL Grace has a capacity of 24,168 TEU and, according to Portal Portuario, a length of approximately 400 meters, placing it among the largest dual-fuel methanol-powered container ships in the world. Manifold Times also described it as one of the largest vessels of this class globally.
First cross-border operation in Guangdong
The operation marked, according to both sources, the first bonded delivery of green methanol carried out directly between different customs jurisdictions within Guangdong province for an internationally trading vessel. The fuel transfer connected CIMC Enric's production plant in Zhanjiang, under Guangzhou Customs, with the Port of Yantian in Shenzhen, under Shenzhen Customs, according to Manifold Times.
Expansion plans
CIMC Enric stated that the green methanol produced in Zhanjiang has a low carbon footprint across its life cycle and meets the traceability, quality, and environmental certification requirements demanded for international shipping. The company said it will continue working with supply chain partners, including Sinobunker, to expand the production, storage, and distribution of this fuel and to support larger-scale bunkering operations in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
