The Port Authority of Castellón (PortCastelló) today presented in Valencia, within the framework of the 16th ENERMAR Technical Conference, the strategic roadmap to position the Castellón port area as a reference industrial hub for the manufacturing, assembly, and logistics of components for floating offshore wind.
During his intervention in the round table on the deployment of marine renewables in ports of general interest, the director of PortCastelló, Manuel J. García, detailed the technical, regulatory, and financial milestones of the transformation of the south dock. This is a key project included in the Port Authority's Investment Plan, whose strategic development began in 2024 with the official launch of the project and the explicit support of the main international firms in the offshore wind industry.
In this context, PortCastelló promoted active participation from its initial phases with the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITERD) for the definition of offshore wind investment frameworks. This work resulted in the granting of a subsidy of 50,833,000 euros approved by the IDAE within the PORT-EOLMAR program (financed by European NextGenerationEU funds), intended to co-finance a total project execution budget of 74.99 million euros.
Environmental Rigor and Phased Execution
The viability of the project is endorsed by the unanimous approval of its financial commitment by the Port Authority's Board of Directors, as well as by the Favorable Compatibility Report with the Marine Strategy of the Levantine-Balearic Demarcation issued by the General Directorate of the Coast and the Sea of the MITECO, guaranteeing maximum respect for marine environmental values.
The technical redesign of the south dock will structure the necessary infrastructure to meet industrial demand:
The director of the Port Authority of Castellón, Manuel J. García, stated that "the wind hub project responds to rigorous strategic planning that we began in 2024. The economic support from the European Union with 50.8 million euros and the interest of the sector confirm that PortCastelló meets the ideal operational and draft conditions to lead the energy transition in the Mediterranean, acting as a driver of sustainable investment, blue economy, and highly qualified employment for our territory."
With this action, PortCastelló consolidates its commitment to climate neutrality and innovation, positioning itself as a cutting-edge logistics hub in the decarbonization of the national port system.
