Seizure of 116,000 cigarette packs in the Port of Algeciras

The Civil Guard and the Customs Tax Agency have reported the seizure of more than 116,000 packs of cigarettes that have attempted to be smuggled through the Port of Algeciras (Spain) during the current year. The latest seizure involved 10,000 packs originating from Tangier (Morocco).

According to reports, these types of joint control operations carried out by both institutions aim to detect illicit entry routes mainly from Gibraltar and other Mediterranean sectors.

Regarding the latest seizure, it was reported that the procedure began after the inspection of a vehicle, with a total of 9,900 packs found in the towing area of the car.

In detail, the recovered merchandise was valued at 58,500 euros, and the driver was placed at the disposal of Spanish justice for the crime of smuggling.
