The Port of Tarragona leveraged its participation in Fruit Attraction, held in Madrid from October 6 to 8, to present to professionals in the fruit and vegetable sector the infrastructure and services that can strengthen its role in fresh fruit transport. The Port Authority delegation focused much of its commercial activity on projects that will expand the Port's logistics offerings, while also highlighting Fruport's activity with its specialized terminal for handling refrigerated fruit.
During the fair, port representatives met with importers and exporters from Lleida, Aragon, South America, and North Africa. They also contacted road transport and logistics companies interested in collaboration opportunities linked to future port developments.
One of the projects presented was the future multi-purpose terminal at Moll d'Andalusia, which will expand cargo handling options and promote the growth of containerized fruit traffic.
The new terminal will be integrated into the Port's logistics offerings and will be able to complement the services currently offered to operators in the sector. During Fruit Attraction, it was also noted that interest in this project has extended to land operators who are studying possible avenues of collaboration to serve the traffic that may be generated. These connections between port activity and land transport are one of the aspects that the Port Authority addressed during the fair.
Commercial promotion during the fair held at the IFEMA venue also included the railway terminals of La Boella, within the port area, and Guadalajara-Marchamalo, the latter pending tender. Both are part of the strategy to improve Tarragona's connection with central Spain and expand transport alternatives for companies in the region.
Guadalajara-Marchamalo terminal is intended to facilitate access to markets in central Spain, while La Boella allows for the articulation of railway connection from the port area. The combination of these infrastructures should contribute to integrating maritime and rail transport into logistics chains.
The projects to expand the logistics offer complement the Port's existing activity with its terminal located at the Reus dock, managed by Fruport, specializing in refrigerated fruit. Its facilities allow working with goods that require maintaining the cold chain, an essential factor for preserving their conditions during logistics operations.
Fruport is one of the pieces of the Port's current offer for tropical fruit traffic destined for European markets. The combination of existing services with future multi-purpose and railway infrastructures will expand the options that Tarragona can offer to operators in the fruit and vegetable sector.
