Port Tarragona consolidates its position as a hub for petrochemical product storage in the Mediterranean within the framework of the 60th annual meeting of the European Petrochemical Association (EPCA). A delegation from Port Tarragona and ChemMed attended the main event of the European petrochemical sector to strengthen ties with representatives from the entire chemical and petrochemical product value chain. During the meeting, the high interest generated in the sector by the multi-purpose terminal at Moll d'Andalusia, awarded last spring to the COSCO-PTP alliance, as well as the railway development of the La Boella intermodal terminal, associated with this concession, was noted.
The delegation from Port Tarragona and ChemMed at EPCA held 25 working meetings with representatives from the entire petrochemical sector value chain: producers, logistics operators, railway companies and terminals, end customers, among others. In these meetings, visions on sectoral trends and new business opportunities were exchanged.
The meetings highlighted the interest of the different sector players in strengthening Port Tarragona's role as a logistics and storage node for chemical and petrochemical products in the Mediterranean for their subsequent distribution to the rest of the European continent. Its strategic geographical location, its facilities, and its know-how as the main logistics partner of the largest petrochemical cluster in Southern Europe, make the Tarragona port one of the most interesting enclaves in the Western Mediterranean to become a hub.
Likewise, within the framework of the EPCA annual meeting, the sector's interest in the new multi-purpose terminal at Moll d'Andalusia, awarded to the COSCO-PTP alliance last spring, and the opportunities linked to the railway development of the La Boella intermodal terminal, an installation associated with this concession, was noted. With eight mixed-gauge tracks, this infrastructure is key for the dispatch of goods by rail both to the interior of the peninsula, via the Ebro corridor, and to the rest of Europe, via the Mediterranean Corridor.
The 60th annual EPCA meeting brought together more than 2,500 professionals from over 500 companies in Vienna for four days with the aim of boosting the competitiveness of the European petrochemical sector and maintaining its leadership as an innovative industry. Under the motto 'Rethinking Resilience', the meeting explored how Europe can strengthen its competitiveness, advance towards sustainability, and maintain global connectivity.
