The Port of Málaga took part in the international trade fair Fruit Attraction, held in Madrid from October 6 to 8, with the aim of promoting its logistics services for the fruit and vegetable sector. The participation was part of a week specifically dedicated to logistics activity, which culminated in Málaga with the third edition of Málaga Fruit Day and the first Fiesta Logística of the Port of Málaga.
Meetings at Fruit Attraction
The fair, which in its 18th edition brought together 2,500 companies from 78 countries and more than 120,000 trade visitors from over 150 countries in Madrid, featured a delegation from Málaga led by the Chairman of the Port Authority, Carlos Rubio Basabe, who had a dedicated space at the Puertos del Estado stand. There, a schedule of meetings was held with growers, importers, exporters, logistics operators and shipping lines, addressing topics such as maintaining the cold chain, traceability and coordination among stakeholders to strengthen Málaga's position as a gateway for refrigerated cargo entering and leaving the domestic and European markets.
Málaga Fruit Day
The third edition of Málaga Fruit Day was held at the Rectorate of the University of Málaga and focused on the outlook for international trade in fruit and vegetable products and on the port's role as a gateway for perishable cargo from Latin America. Carlos Rubio Basabe highlighted the presence of exporting companies from Chile, Peru and Costa Rica, alongside businesspeople from the Axarquía region with experience in transporting subtropical produce. During one of the panel discussions, René Díaz, CEO of UCC, spoke about the potential of the Málaga hub, in a session where operators emphasized the port's agility and customer service, as well as the need to strengthen logistics integration in order to compete for new traffic.
First Fiesta Logística
Following the professional conference, the Port of Málaga held the first Fiesta Logística at the Gutiérrez del Palmeral restaurant, bringing together more than 120 companies and public bodies and around 500 professionals from the maritime-port sector, including participants from South America. The initiative, promoted among others by the Málaga Port Authority, MSC, Baleària, Noatum and Eurogate Group Terminals, aims to become an annual event that strengthens ties among the different players in the logistics chain.
The port in figures
In 2025, the Port of Málaga reached a total throughput of 5.6 million tonnes, marking a new all-time record and making it, for the second consecutive year, the fastest-growing port in the Spanish port system in terms of cargo volume. Import and export traffic grew by 50.2%, driven mainly by the increase in exports, while international connectivity improved by more than 30%, with regular lines linking Málaga to Europe, Africa, North America and Asia.
