The Board of Directors of the Port Authority of Seville (APS) has approved the award of the tender for the management of the ship repair yard at the Port of Seville to AG Seville Shipyard, S.L., a company that currently provides this service in the area and whose concession expires in December of this year.
The activity will be carried out in approximately 22,000 m2 distributed between the current dry dock and the southern end of the Fitting-Out Quay, for work on vessels afloat; and in a two-story office building that previously housed the shipyard's management. The area also includes a slipway, currently unused, among other annexed spaces.
Following the award, the port institution will begin processing the administrative concession, the granting of which will culminate with approval by the Board of Directors in upcoming sessions. The maximum term of the concession is 25 years.
Improved Coordination of Maritime Traffic
The port governing body has also approved the 'Regulatory Ordinance for the Coordination of Port Maritime Traffic in the Port of Seville'. This document brings together for the first time all technical instructions and procedures related to port operations in the waters of the port's service area and its estuary.
The ordinance covers aspects related to the navigation regime, both in the dock and in the outer area; the coordination and control of the provision of technical-nautical services (piloting, tugging, and mooring); ordering rules for the entry and exit of vessels, and operations in adverse weather conditions.
It also groups the nautical ordering of the anchorage through a traffic control and communication system with the aim of optimizing efficiency in maritime access to the port.
For its elaboration, the Port Authority has worked together with the Capitanía Marítima de Sevilla, which has issued a favorable report, as has the Organismo Público Puertos del Estado.
The application of these provisions will be integrated into the activity of the Local Port Information Service (LPIS), the service that since the beginning of the year directly coordinates and supervises operations in the water area.
More Investment for the Free Trade Zone
The Board of Directors has approved the modification of the management order signed in February by the Consorcio Zona Franca de Sevilla to the Port Authority of Seville, which includes an increase in funding of 4.2 million euros destined for the improvement of the facilities. This document establishes that the APS will be responsible for the contracting and technical direction of the drafting of projects for the improvement of the Free Trade Zone of the Port of Seville.
With this modification, the total amount allocated to recondition the area amounts to 8 million euros. This will be dedicated to actions such as the improvement of the lighting network, the reinforcement of the pavement on the roads of the Astilleros Industrial Park, the provision of electrical power, and the urban conditioning of the spaces.
New Steps in the Port Urban District
Furthermore, the president of the APS, Rafael Carmona, informed the members of the Board of Directors about the recent tender published for the drafting of the urbanization project for the residential and tertiary land on Avenida de Las Razas.
These lands correspond to the ARI-DBOP-08 Area, located on the eastern bank of Avenida de Las Razas, opposite the new Port Urban District. This is a future residential area with green spaces, public facilities, and tertiary uses that will favor the integration of the port into the city.
The works have a base tender amount of 358,282 euros, excluding VAT, and the deadline for submitting offers ends on November 9, 2026.
The urbanization project will cover a total area of 165,698 m² along two kilometers. The resulting document will include the system of open spaces in the area, such as the head of the Parque del Guadaíra, and educational facilities, which will continue to maintain their current use and configuration. Also, other open spaces intended to favor transversal connection around the residential area, such as the Plaza de la Exposición; equipment zones, residential for 700 homes, of which 226 will be protected, and the roadways.
