The Port of Almería is participating in Seatrade Cruise Med, the main professional gathering for the cruise sector in the Mediterranean, which is held biennially and this edition is hosted by Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The objective is to promote Almería as a destination through the infrastructure and services that the Almerian port provides to cruise tourism and to intensify its relationships with the main operators and shipping companies in the sector. This comes at a time when the Port of Almería is undergoing a total renovation, from east to west of its port facilities, in its connection and opening to the city, and is fulfilling its commitment to increase cruise calls, with exclusive facilities, as demanded by the city and province of Almería through the Bahía Almeriport Foundation, which was also present at the event, as was the Councilor for Tourism, Communications and City Promotion in the Almería City Council, Alejandro Soler.
The president of the Port Authority of Almería (APA), Rosario Soto, detailed in her presentation 'Destination Almería: Mediterranean stopover with exclusive facilities and better services for cruise passengers', the port authority's continuous commitment to encourage shipping companies to choose the Port of Almería for their cruise calls, thus favoring an increase in visitors and tourism de-seasonalization in Almería. In this regard, she presented the more than 40 million euros in investment that will be executed between 2027 and 2028 through public works for the improvement of facilities and to provide more services to the port, which are in addition to the 16 million euros materialized since 2023 in the opening of the first port-city phase and the provision of a new gangway for cruise passengers.
According to Soto: "We are working to promote quality tourism in Almería through cruise calls, and we do so, as a port of general state interest, with services and facilities." In this sense, the president of the APA recalled that this Monday the construction of an exclusive terminal for cruise passengers was awarded, independent of other passengers, in the maritime station and with direct access to the connection with the city center, with an investment of approximately 700,000 euros, which will be completed in the first four months of 2027.
In addition, Soto presented works that will be carried out over the next two years, such as the second phase of urban port-city integration, the new envelope of the maritime station, and the reorganization of the passenger area in Ribera II, which will result in a more avant-garde, accessible, and attractive port for tourism. She also stated that the APA will put out to tender, for administrative concession, the facilities of the Captaincy and Maritime Rescue, with the aim of giving them a cultural and social use.
At Seatrade Cruise Med, the Port of Almería, accompanied by the Bahía Almeriport Foundation, the Almería City Council, and the association for the promotion of Andalusia as a cruise destination, 'Suncruise Andalucía', has an exhibition space within the Puertos del Estado stand where they hold meetings with shipping companies and tour operators in their commercial work to boost cruise calls in Almería.
Seatrade Cruise Med, organized by Informa Markets and considered the main professional gathering in the Mediterranean and its adjacent seas, expects to bring together more than 2,000 attendees, around 180 international exhibitors, and nearly 220 executives from the world's leading cruise companies.
