Cruise Terminal Awarded in Port of Almería for 2027

The Port Authority of Almería (APA) is advancing in the improvement of services provided to passengers, in this case to cruise passengers, with the awarding of the works for an exclusive terminal for them in the southwest of the Maritime Station. This action is another example of the strong commitment to cruise tourism, which registered a 40% increase in cruise calls at the Port of Almería last year. "For the Port Authority of Almería, it is essential to provide quality facilities for travelers, and we continue to work on this; first, we have done so with a new fixed gangway and finger, which connects ferries and cruises with the Maritime Station and in which the APA has invested nearly 2.8 million euros, and now, with the independent cruise terminal that will be completed in the first quarter of 2027," informs the president of the APA, Rosario Soto, who will also participate this week in Seatrade Cruise Med, to present to sector operators the improvements in the port and its qualitative leap to boost cruise calls.

Through the new terminal, awarded to Transformaciones y Embalses Parra for 689,899.89 euros (VAT included) and an execution period of four months, starting from the site layout act, cruise passengers will access directly from the ship to a terminal independent from the rest of the passengers, with a tourist information point and other services, for their departure from the port to the city center.

The area of action covers more than 422 square meters, which include the cruise passenger area and reformed dependencies for state security forces. The complex exclusively for cruise passengers consists of two floors and an adapted panoramic elevator; level 0 will have private access and will house access control, while level 1, accessed via a public staircase or the adapted elevator, will have a large waiting room with charging points and internet access, as well as a tourist information point.

Maritime Station: energy-efficient and modern

Along with the internal adaptation of the Maritime Station for the cruise terminal, the Port Authority of Almería is working on improving its architectural aesthetics and that of the annexed buildings, in line with the port-to-city opening actions carried out in the east and west, and on the energy efficiency of the properties in its commitment to environmental sustainability. In this regard, the UTE Ferrer-GMÁSP is drafting the basic and execution project that the APA will present in the near future and which specifically covers four buildings: the maritime station, with a built area of 8,244 square meters (m2); the multi-service building of 647 m2 and two annexed buildings of 481 m2 and 244 m2, respectively.
