Tarragona Loads 30-Ton Silos in Project Cargo Operation

The Euroports terminal, located at the Castilla Dock in the Port of Tarragona, concluded a new highly complex logistical operation, involving the reception, stowage, and loading of two large industrial silos aboard the vessel MV Maestro, bound for the Port of Hamburg (Germany).

These engineered pieces measure 26 meters in length, 5 meters in diameter, and have a unit weight exceeding 30 tons. The silos were manufactured in the Tarragona region and are being exported as part of a European-wide industrial project, demonstrating the Port of Tarragona's importance as a gateway for goods from the region's productive sector.

The handling of these large-sized cargoes required technical coordination from the Euroports Tarragona team. In the initial phase, the reception of the pieces at the terminal was carried out using two reach stacker cranes operating in tandem due to the size and weight of the elements.

The loading operation required the use of special self-propelled transport (SPMT) for transfer to the quayside, lifting equipment to place the silos in the hold of the MV Maestro, and welding and lashing work to secure the cargo for the sea voyage. The operation was completed in one day.

This logistical milestone confirms the Port of Tarragona's position as a reference hub for project cargo movement (special and oversized loads) in the western Mediterranean.
