APC tenders for project drafting to improve Escombreras basin

The Port Authority of Cartagena (Spain) has initiated the tender process for the drafting of the construction project and technical assistance for the improvement of the Escombreras basin.

Details of this milestone were provided on the APC website, where it was noted that "the action will allow for the definition of the necessary works to extend the sanitation system to an area exceeding 100 hectares and connect concessionaires and companies located in different areas of the basin to the new network. The scope includes the surroundings of the Isaac Peral, Polivalente, Maese, and Bastarreche docks, as well as El Fangal, including both the new concessioned areas of the Escombreras expansion and other areas where septic tanks and independent wastewater collection systems currently exist".

"The new tender continues the works of the first phase of the Escombreras Sanitation Network, which began in January with an investment of 1,090,089.23 euros, VAT included, and an execution period of eight months. That action aims to replace dispersed sanitation systems with a common infrastructure and connect the Escombreras basin with that of Cartagena to subsequently transfer wastewater to the municipal network," the publication added.

Regarding the infrastructure, it was detailed that "the future action includes the construction of new sanitation and communication pipelines, pumping wells, and the necessary connections between the different areas. The characteristics of Escombreras, with practically flat terrain and very gentle slopes, make it necessary to use pumping systems to transport wastewater".

For his part, Pedro Hernández, APC President, assured that "we are acting in phases to provide the entire Escombreras basin with a common sanitation network, adapted to the current needs of companies and prepared for the growth of this industrial area," he stated.

The drafting of the project has an allocated budget of 299,501 euros.
