The Castellón Port Authority and the Firefighters of the Prevention, Firefighting and Rescue Service (SPEIS) of the Castellón City Council are strengthening collaboration and coordination in emergency matters with theoretical and practical training carried out in the port area for new recruits.
A total of eight personnel have carried out firefighting exercises at the Levante dock, in order to reinforce the security system in the area to carry out any intervention in the port area in case of an emergency. The practices focused on specific training on the Castellón port's Risk Plan.
The president of the Port Authority, Rubén Ibáñez, highlighted the "close collaboration that exists between both administrations" and, in this regard, recalled that there is currently a valid agreement between the Castellón Port Authority and the City Council's Fire Department on the provision of services, which includes 75,000 euros annually for training and equipment for SPEIS personnel.
Ibáñez explained that "acting on the ground and making this critical infrastructure known to the Castellón fire department, providing them with specialized training tools for the correct performance of their tasks, is essential to safeguard both the security of the facility and the port community."
"The updating of knowledge and continuous training of personnel allows us a greater response capacity and better preparation, organization and management of both personnel and resources in any emergency situation that may arise in the port environment," said the head of PortCastelló.
New Firefighter Recruits
For his part, the Councilor for Security and Emergencies, Antonio Ortolá, highlighted the importance of the new firefighters of the Castellón City Council being able to carry out this type of practice in real scenarios such as the port, since "it is essential that our firefighters know firsthand all the situations and variants they may have to face in the exercise of their work."
Ortolá pointed out that "it had been a long time since the Castellón City Council had incorporated new firefighters and their arrival is great news for our city, because it means reinforcing an essential service and, at the same time, ensuring that these new professionals receive the best possible preparation."
SPEIS Personnel Training
Among the training already carried out within the framework of this agreement, a training course on the Operational Management and Command (GOM) Method in emergencies and security and another on drone piloting in emergency situations stand out.
In addition to the training, both institutions collaborate in different drills carried out in the port facilities, in which other Security Forces and Bodies also participate, in order to evaluate the coordination and immediate response capacity of the different organizations and security bodies in the face of a real threat.
Agreement Description
Regarding the commitments of the Port Authority included in the agreement, the most notable is to provide specific training to the SPEIS personnel of the Castellón City Council to carry out any intervention in the port area. This includes intervention on vessels, rescue of people both on land and at sea, and the fight against marine pollution, among others."
It also includes the financing of different technical materials to carry out emergency interventions such as drones, chemical risk intervention equipment, special vehicles, etc.
