The Santander Port Authority (APS) has successfully adhered to the Luxembourg Declaration, committing to integrate the basic principles of health promotion at work into the health management of its employees, in addition to fulfilling its obligations regarding occupational risk prevention.
The Luxembourg Declaration is a consensus document drafted in 1997 by the European Network for Workplace Health Promotion (ENWHP), which establishes the basic principles of action and the framework of reference for good health management of a company's human team.
With this adherence, APS commits to implementing the principles advocated in the Declaration and disseminating it to all its staff, involving them in health decisions, including health in the organization's management processes, and introducing organizational improvements, personal development, and environmental conditions within the company.
The document also certifies that the institution becomes part of the Spanish Network of Healthy Companies (REES), coordinated by the National Institute for Safety and Health at Work (INSST).
Specifically, APS was included in June, along with 19 other companies from Cantabria, in the Cantabria Healthy Companies Network Project (Rescan), thus integrating into the national network.
The initiative of the Government of Cantabria, through the ICSST, aims to promote a new business model where health, well-being, and sustainability are strategic management pillars.
The plan includes the development of personalized diagnoses, practical recommendations for advancing occupational health and well-being, specialized training in occupational health, well-being, safety, and emerging trends, participation in workshops and professional meetings, and expert accompaniment to guide the progress of each organization in a coherent and sustainable manner.
For the President of APS, César Díaz, both this project and the adherence to the Luxembourg Declaration mean "being aware of the latest trends in occupational safety and health to be able to apply them in our environment and to learn and exchange experiences with other institutions and companies in this field."
"It is about promoting the safety and health of workers, but also about strengthening the competitiveness, reputation, and sustainability of the Port Authority, in line with the objectives established in our Strategic Plan," concluded Díaz.
