Santander, August 31, 2026. The company Desarrollo, Gestión Industrial y del Medio Ambiente, S.A. will be responsible for carrying out the repair and commissioning work on the Maliaño side movable leaf of the Raos bridge for an amount of 568,700 euros and an execution period of five months.
With this action, and the one already carried out on the Raos side movable leaf, the full operability of an infrastructure that, in the words of the president of the Port Authority of Santander (APS), César Díaz, is key “to guarantee the total connectivity of the port and ensure agile and efficient operations” will be recovered.
He also points out that the works, which have been executed in two phases in order to make the works compatible with the bridge's operability for as long as possible, “will not affect access to the dock.”
Díaz also highlights that “from the first day this incident occurred, we have been dedicating significant technical, human, and economic resources to restore the full functionality of the bridge in the shortest possible time.”
The fundamental objective of the construction works for the repair and commissioning of the Maliaño movable leaf of the Santander Port drawbridge is the replacement of the half-shafts and spherical joints corresponding to the bridge's main tilting movement system. The planned works consist of the temporary lifting of the Maliaño bridge's movable leaf using metallic shoring and hydraulic jacks, to proceed with the replacement of deteriorated half-shafts and swivel joints.
Furthermore, tests will be carried out on a series of existing welds in the metal structure to check for and detect, if applicable, potential defects, as well as their repair.
Finally, the installation of a structural monitoring system is planned, both provisional during the work and definitive during the service phase.
