PORT OF LÁZARO CÁRDENAS EXCEEDS 19.7 MILLION TONS AND GROWS 8% BY THE END OF AUGUST 2026

Puerto Lázaro Cárdenas, September 28, 2026.- The Port of Lázaro Cárdenas handled 19,716,350 tons of commercial cargo by the end of August 2026, representing an 8% growth compared to the same period in 2025, when it registered 18,201,692 tons. This historic performance was supported by the arrival of 1,209 vessels, surpassing the 1,186 vessels served in the first eight months of 2025.

Cargo movement by segment

• Containerized Cargo

1,804,008 TEUs of containerized cargo, 5% more than in 2025. Regarding traffic distribution, 48% corresponded to transshipment operations (874,145 TEUs), 26% to imports (467,711 TEUs), and 26% to exports (462,152 TEUs).

• Automotive Industry:

457,656 automotive units were moved. Of the total imported vehicles, which amounted to 328,805 units, China concentrated the largest share of origin, with 51%, followed by Japan (33%), South Korea (10%), and other countries (6%).

• Mineral Bulk

Registered a remarkable volume, reaching 7,300,437 tons, an increase of 21% compared to 2025 (6,045,801 tons), driven by the region's steel and mining industry.

National Positioning

In the national port system landscape, Lázaro Cárdenas consolidates its position as an indispensable pillar of Mexico's foreign trade:

• Containers: Accounts for 28% of all TEUs operated nationwide (1.8 million out of 6.5 million TEUs).
• Automotive: Captures 33% of the country's vehicle movement (457,656 units out of a national total of 1.36 million).
• Total Cargo: Represents 12% of the country's total cargo.

In addition, multimodal logistics showed greater intermodal efficiency: rail transport (FFCC) continued to gradually increase its market share, participating with 29% of the total land distribution, while road transport moved 71%.
