As water is a fundamental resource to sustain food security in the country and the world, the Alto Huallaga Special Project (PEAH), an executing unit of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), promotes the sustainable use and conservation of natural resources in harmony with the environment.
In this way, PEAH enables the generation of comprehensive, sustainable, competitive, participatory, and inclusive agrarian development within its institutional scope of influence.
In this regard, PEAH is carrying out "Installation and improvement of irrigation system" works in the localities of Pamparahuay and Queropata – Huánuco, where more than 50 families and over 1,000 hectares of agricultural land will benefit, gaining access to water services for efficient irrigation, thus improving potato production and boosting family farming in the Huánuco region.
Likewise, the project "Recovery and conservation of soil and and water resources through reforestation – III stage" is being executed in the Cholón district – San Martín, which aims to reforest using Agrosilvopastoral systems to recover and protect degraded soils.
For this reason, nurseries are being implemented for the production of forest seedlings of commercial value such as Cedar, Moena, Capirona, among others; and plants of ecological value for the recovery of degraded soils such as Pashaco, Shaina, Leucaena, among others; for the reforestation of 2,094 hectares that will benefit 988 families from 42 localities in the Cholón district.
"Where, in addition, the local population and beneficiaries of the project provide unskilled labor for the production, installation, and maintenance of forest species seedlings on their plots," reported PEAH.
Finally, PEAH reinforces its commitment to increasing efficiency in water consumption for agricultural purposes, to contribute to raising agrarian development in the region.
