ProInversión Unlocks San Juan de Marcona Port Terminal with Land Handover

With the official handover of the land, the mega port project begins its engineering and construction phase, marking a key milestone for the development of the country's south.

LIMA, Peru. ProInversión Peru agency announced the formal unblocking of the San Juan de Marcona Port Terminal, a strategic mega-project designed to boost the economy of southern Peru, transform logistics infrastructure, and generate employment.

The project, which was initially stalled because the assigned area overlapped with mining rights, managed to resolve its legal and technical impasses after a series of key actions:

• September 24, 2026: The agreement between ProInversión and the Shougang company was signed, resolving the territorial overlap.
• September 26, 2026: The official handover of the land to the concessionaire took place.
• Current stage: The project formally moves to the engineering and construction phase.

Social and Economic Impact

The mega-project represents a strategic investment with high socioeconomic impact for the country:

• Job creation: More than 1,500 direct and indirect jobs are projected to be created over the next five years.
• Social fund: It will have a social fund of S/ 290 million soles allocated to community development and well-being.
• Regional scope: It will directly and indirectly benefit 29 provinces in the southern region of Peru, strengthening competitiveness and regional trade.
