Delaware Memorial Bridge Completes $89M Ship Collision Protection System
The Delaware River and Bay Authority (DRBA) completed an $89 million Ship Collision Protection System (SCPS) for the Delaware Memorial Bridge, marking 75 years since the first span opened on August 16, 1951. The project, supported by a $22.25 million U.S. Department of Transportation BUILD grant, installed eight massive 80-foot-diameter dolphin cells. The bridge now handles approximately 50,000 tolls daily and 100,000 vehicles per day, serving as a critical economic link for the mid-Atlantic region.
