China deploys coast guard patrol east of Taiwan amid diplomatic tensions
China launched a coast guard patrol east of Taiwan on July 4 to replace an existing task force, conducting "law enforcement patrols" in what Beijing claims are its jurisdictional waters. Taiwan responded by deploying monitoring vessels and vowing to use "all necessary measures to forcefully expel Chinese vessels harassing our waters." This marks the second operation in roughly a month, escalating a dispute involving the U.S., France, Germany and Britain.
