SoCal Ports Have Very Strong May with Positive Near-Term Outlooks
The twin ports of Southern California reported strong May volumes with the Port of Los Angeles processing 840,165 TEUs (17% increase year-over-year) and the Port of Long Beach moving 842,030 TEU (31.7% increase). Both ports showed robust import growth—26% and 40% respectively—driven by inventory replenishment and trade-policy uncertainty. Port of Los Angeles expects June volumes above 900,000 TEU, though the National Retail Federation warns retailers may have advanced the busy season.
