RINA Awards AiP for Energy Harvesting Ship That Could Become Green Supplier
RINA awarded an Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate to Drift Energy, a UK-based start-up, for an energy-harvesting ship designed to produce green hydrogen as it sails. The vessels use hydrokinetic turbines to generate electricity converted into green hydrogen via electrolysis, stored onboard for delivery to ports worldwide. Drift plans to launch its first ship during 2027 with an orderbook of more than 30 vessels, positioning itself as the world's first net-positive vessel.
