The National Ports Administration (ANP) presented in Paraguay the development opportunities of the Punta del Arenal Sur Complement and Lightering Zone, located at km 18,500 of the Uruguay River, for fuel transshipment operations. The event took place at the Uruguayan embassy in Asunción and was led by the president of the ANP, Pablo Genta, along with the head of the Commercial Development Division, Carla Gianoni.
Also participating in the event were representatives of the Center of River and Maritime Shipowners (Cafym), led by its president Bernd Gunther, as well as members of the Paraguayan Fuel Distributors Chamber (Cadipac) and Associated Fuel Distributors of Paraguay (Dicapar), entities that group wholesale and retail fuel distributors in the Paraguayan market.
During the presentation, ANP representatives explained the details of the initiative, which foresees a tender to award a riverbed area in Punta del Arenal Sur. The project includes the installation of mooring buoys for STS operations, initially aimed at hydrocarbon transshipment.
According to what was reported during the meeting, the tender will be held this year and the award will have a term of 18 months, extendable for a similar period. The initiative aims to generate a logistical alternative for fuel lightering destined for Paraguay, complementing operations currently carried out at km 171 of the Paraná Guazú and at terminals in the Campana area, in Argentina.
