The Port Executive Unit of Santa Cruz (Uneposc), under the Ministry of Production, Commerce and Industry of Argentina, carried out a technical visit in Puerto Deseado with the five companies interested in participating in the public tender for the repair of Berth N° 4 and its transition zone, one of the most important sectors of the local pier.
The tour was conducted with the support of an Argentine Navy boat, which allowed for an aquatic inspection of the condition of the piles, the front beam, and the rest of the berth's structure, currently out of service.
"Today, a technical visit was carried out with the companies interested in the repair work of Berth 4 and the transition of the Port of Puerto Deseado," explained the general coordinator of ports, Walter Uribe.
"Thanks to the collaboration of the Navy boat, we were also able to inspect everything related to Berth 4 by water," added the provincial official.
The process involves one provincial company and two firms from Chubut and Buenos Aires, within the framework of a project that, due to its magnitude, requires specific technical background in port infrastructure repair.
The work includes the comprehensive repair of the piles and the structural base of the pier with an estimated execution period of 16 months once awarded. "It is a very important, quite large project, where specialized companies are required to carry out this work," Uribe noted.
The revitalization of Berth 4 will allow the port to fully recover its operational capacity and enable unloading tasks in a sector that is currently inactive due to its deteriorated state, in line with the Provincial Government's objectives to strengthen the region's strategic infrastructure.
"There are two berths that are currently not operational, and this will allow us to carry out unloading in that berth, which we are not doing at the moment," the official stated.
The tender schedule continues its course with the opening of bids scheduled for July 23 at Uneposc's central headquarters. So far, two companies have acquired the corresponding bidding documents, and one or two more are expected to join before the deadline.
