Cotton movement at the Port of Salvador continued to grow in the first half of 2026, after handling 115,876 tons, a volume that represented a 12.09% increase compared to the total registered throughout 2025, when 103,375 tons of this fiber passed through the facility.
The State of Bahia holds a prominent position in cotton cultivation in Brazil. According to the Bahian Cotton Producers Association (Abapa), this year's harvest has already exceeded 96,000 hectares, 23% more than that cultivated in the 2025/2026 season.
Most of the local production is destined for export, mainly to Asian countries such as China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Turkey, Indonesia, and India.
"The efficiency of port operations is one of the factors contributing to the competitiveness of Bahian cotton in foreign trade. The Port of Salvador plays a fundamental role in cotton export logistics and in maintaining the competitiveness of state production in international markets," stated the Federal Port Authority – Codeba.
"The consolidation of the weekly Bahia-China sea route, which has expanded the offer of logistics services and provided greater predictability to shipments destined for the Asian market, is one of the elements that has favored this performance," the entity noted.
